1880s Walking Beam Steam Engine Germany

1880s Walking Beam Steam Engine - Germany. A simple but beautiful walking beam engine from Germany, possibly by Ernst Plank from around the late 1880s. There is very little paint remaining on the engine and one lead post with its adjacent railings is missing.

Three small chips of tin have broken off the base due some ancient rust, but which has not changed in at least 45 years. The toy measures approximately 4 x 7 x 7 inches and comes with a long running windup motor that functions well. Most such primitive engines are scarcer than those that ran on actual steam, and often have just as much eye appeal.
