I do not know the age of this model, which was obviously built by an engineer of great talent. My best guess would be the 1920's but could be earlier or later.
The detail to even the smallest component is outstanding. The model is 22 length overall and weighs in at a heavy 25lbs. It appears to be 3/4 gauge, and the wheels would be run on standard 3 1/2 inch track.
I took this measurement by measuring from center to center of the flats on the wheels. The large drive wheels, solid brass, measure an impressive 4 1/4 diameter. I have never attempted to run this machine or fire up the boiler. When pushed along a surface all drive wheels operate and the linkages move correctly. Note the detail to the bell, piping, hand controls, and fixtures in the undercarriage.
The front cow catcher is nicely made of wood. At some point in it's lifetime the locomotive lost it's wooden cab, but other than that the model seems virtually complete. I have had it in my office as a static model for over twenty years. It is one of my favorite and most admired pieces. But, daughter going to private high school next year so time for a new owner. This locomotive is truly a work of art, beautiful even more so in it's current condition.
