Up for sale is an Antique Weeden Cast Iron & Brass Early Model Steam Engine & Boiler Toy USA!! This is a very early model of a toy steam engine with a boiler made by Weeden out of Bedford, Mass USA. These old steam toys are very interesting, and this one has a cast iron base and parts with a brass boiler and some other brass pieces here and there. This particular piece is in acceptable condition with a couple of issues. First, someone painted the entire thing black so it is not the original paint bummer...
The burner and governor are missing for this piece as well as the sight glass, and the steam regulator shaft is bent and missing the thumb wheel. I was told all of this by an expert. The burner is supposed to sit under the boiler between the legs of the stand and governer slides into the dove tail slot on top of the piston housing. Apparently it is not uncommon for these to both be missing on this model.
It does look like the top center piece on the boiler was broken off at one point and re-attached, likely with some sort of epoxy putty it looks like. The fly wheel for the steam engine portion does work on this and spins, allowing the pistons to move in and out, so it is not seized up or anything like that.
Given all this, I would say that this model is non-working as it stands and I have not tested it out so it is untested. This would be a great candidate for a restoration however I would start with paint remover, get rid of that black paint and shine that brass up! The piece measures in at 6 1/2" wide, 5 3/4" deep, and 6 tall.
