ERNST PLANK STEAM TOY LATHE. WITH WOOD BASE AND WOOD TABLE. This is the real deal. This original piece has the coveted Ernst Plank oval button marked Germany E.
(Ernest Plank) and the logo. The lathe has very intricate detail and is 4 1/4" tall with a 3" x 5 wood base. Ernst Plank founded his firm in 1866. Very early he became involved with steam engines and steam engine toys.
His earliest accessories were tools like this one mounted on a wooden base. He would then number each piece in pencil on the bottom of the wooden base. This item is numbered 420.This numbering along with the oval button makes this item very special for the collector. Plank's company was in business until 1934. The condition of this piece is super nice. The black paint looks to have been touched up where needed.
The table is an exact replacement. The base has several minor dings but for the most part this is a great find. This toy is way more than 100 years old. Now for the MUMBO JUMBO.
