Rare Antique Weeden No. 10 Vintage 1898 Horizontal Steam Engine Toy
9 3/8 High, 9 1/4 Overall Length and 7 Overall Width. Advertised as the largest and strongest engine to date. The boiler is brass, enveloped with a sheet iron jacket to prevent loss of heat. Boiler trimmings are safety valve, whistle, steam dome and water gauge. The early models are equipped with a gear driven governor and a 4 ΒΌ flywheel.
The cylinder, steam chest and cross head slide rest are made in one piece of solid brass. The piston and rod, crank and connecting rod, eccentric, valve rod, and slide valve are also of brass and nickel plated. Boiler frame and engine bed are of cast iron or brass, nickel plated with polished edges.
A later variation, pictured in a 1898 Weeden Catalog, has a replaced engine like that of model No. 60 with the steam line on the outside of the boiler shield. Packed one-half dozen in a case.
This engine is scarce in any condition. Note that this one is the earlier variation since the steam line is on the inside of the boiler shield. It is in good condition as far as I can tell.The wheel and knobs turn. The fly wheel turns freely. The sight glass in intact. The fuel tray is missing as well as the Weeden decal on the front of the unit. You can see the outline where it would have gone.
