RARE Vintage Empire Metal Ware Corp Electric Vertical Steam Engine B31 - Circa 1930s. This engine is a solidly built engine, typical of early Empire engines. The base and flywheel are cast iron.
The engine frame appears to be cast bronze? And incorporates the cylinder, steam valve, throttle and whistle mounting in the one casting. The brass vertical boiler is 2 1/2" diameter and 6 1/2" overall height. The heating element is contained in a hollow in the bottom of the boiler.
It is rated at 110V and is supplied through a 2 pin connector on the base. There is a traditional water gauge glass on the side. When new there was a dummy chimney on top incorporating the safety valve which is missing. Steam is fed through the hollow engine frame casting, through a throttle valve to the integral cylinder, which is 5/8" bore x 7/8" stroke. The valve gear is a simple non-reversing eccentric operating a cylindrical slide valve. Both the fly wheel and knob turn freely. The base shows some signed of aging as would be expected on most engines of this era. This engine is in great condition for nearly 100 years old. A great addition to any steam engine collection.
