Weeden #648 Electric Heat Toy Steam Engine, Nickel Plated Boiler, Wood Carry Box

This model #648 is the second electrically heated verison of Weeden's very popular #14 steam engine. With the #648, Weeden fully enclosed the heating element and added a base plate under the heating element to keep the heat generated from burning any surface the engine was set upon. This solved the problems created by the #648's predecessor, the #647. The #648 as offered with two versions of boilers - brass with a black outlet valve dome, and all nickel plated, including sightglass fittings and steam outlet valve dome. An original instruction card that was supplied with all Weeden's electrically heated engines is included.

Also, the standard cloth applicance cord goes with the engine. WEEDEN #648 ELECTRIC HEAT TOY STEAM ENGINE, NICKEL PLATED BOILER, WOOD CARRY BOX. Weeden #648 electrically heated steam engine. Completely nickel plated boiler with sturdy plywood transport box.

The Weeden Manufacturing Company was formed in 1883 in New Bedford, Massachusetts. They produced many different steam engine models, both vertical and horizontal, locomotives and other mobile toy engines, electric motors and also built toy banks and other novelties. Very few of Weeden's models came with boilers fully decked out in nickel plating. This unit comes with some extras. And of course the sturdy plywood carry box keeps you Weeden safe!

The boiler bands were removed and the entire boiler was polished. There was a bit of built up rust under the black bands, probably from either overfilling or running the boiler over pressure. This should be avoided on machines like this model #648, because the water runs around the boiler shell and drips down directly on the heating element, The red frame paint is in VERY good condition and the boiler is ready to fill and go.

These are zippy little machines, and you'll have hours of fun running with this great engine from the past. Also, we will take and send photos to detail any part the sender requests.
