Early 1880s Ernst Plank Steam Engine Germany
For LARGER Pics look BELOW Description 1880s Ernst Plank Steam Engine/Germany. This 1880s Ernst Plank ornate steam engine on wooden base measures 7 inches in height. It is missing its burner as well as the steel spring inside the safety valve - quite possibly rusted away. (The way to gain access tfor a replacement is by un-soldering its post from the boiler - an simple repair if you're handy with a soldering iron or a mini torch). Naturally, I've not been able to test the engine, but everything appears to be sound. The richly finished wooden base has a slight curve to it I have seen this type of simple but rich wooden base on some of Ernst Plank's earliest models and on a few of their very early steam accessories. It is completely original to the toy. There is a bit of excess solder which can be seen by the water level tap. Later models most often had a removable dummy governor, though this one was designed without. It's certainly a very beautiful engine in every sense.
