PLUS 4 EXTRA RELATED PUBLICATIONS. This Vertical Model Steam Engine was built by my great uncle in 1972. He was a WWII airplane mechanic and a machinist in Chicago.
Im posting four of his completed Stuart Live Steam Engine Models this week. He had his own machine shop in his basement, and built models for the 25 years he was retired. This V10 was perfectly made.
It is painted cream, mounted on finished hardwood , and has felt on the bottom. He was a master at what he did, and kept this on a shelf in his den like a piece of art.
He ran it on air. There isnt any rust, and it works very well. It is my hope that this will go to someone who will enjoy it as much as he did. The V10 is a small, vertical, single-cylinder, steam engine that has high speed ability. Flywheel Diameter: 3 Inches Diameter. This is what comes in the box before it is assembled (this one is completed). Boxbed, soleplate, standard, cylinder, valve chest and cover, top and bottom cylinder covers, flywheel. Slide valve, piston, connecting rod, eccentric rod, valve operating block, glands, crosshead, crankshaft bearings. Crankshaft, crankwebbs, eccentric sheave, crosshead pin, piston and valve rods. Detailed drawings, gaskets, cylinder lagging, gland packing, fixings pack.This engine has an A-frame casting and trunk guide, allowing equal crosshead support when running in either direction. A popular type of engine for use in model steam boats is the 10V series of vertical steam engines.
These engines are a robust resign & if they are well engineered in the first place, will give great results in a model steam boat. The 10V is a single cylinder slide valve engine, 3/4 inch bore & 3/4 inch stroke. Included are four publications from the 1970's that my uncle stored with this model instructions on how to build it, a Live Steam magazine that talks about it, and two catalogs.
