Vintage Horizontal Fleischmann 122-3 (b) live steam engine
This is a vintage, Horizontal Fleischmann 122-3 steam engine, ready to run. It has the bottom half of the box which is not in very good shape.
This is one of Fleischmanns larger machines as you can see from the pictures and the dimensions at the bottom of the page. Cosmetically it is very nice, with original paint. I do not believe this one was used more than a few times. It is a strong running engine.
I cleaned and resealed the site glass and flushed the boiler but it did not need it, as it was very clean. I made a new brass fill plug and smoke stack for it. It has a new Jensen burner tray, used once for tests. It has the original governor, which works fine.
I put a new drive band on it. It is mounted on a hand crafted Spruce platform. I used existing holes to mount it with stainless steel screws. To get you started I included a bottle of steam cylinder oil, a bag of hexamine fuel and a 250ml/8oz fill bottle. I was able to find a copy of some Fleischmanns operating instructions that are included. With the instructions, is some other info I gathered from the web. Please view all the pictures. What you see is what you get. In order to expedite your order I go to the post office as soon as it opens the following day. Since they are pre-packed, I cannot combine engines. Note; Sometimes Spruce will get a warp to it as it dries.I dry my lumber in a rack for several months, but this is not always enough. When it changes climates from the high humidity of Florida to an area that is prone to have low humidity it can exacerbate this condition. I always position my engine or accessory on the top of the crown, so it should stay level on the intended surface.
