Wonderful, 1940's Weeden #500, Upright / Vertical Steam Engine Toy. This early, Steam Engine measures approx. 8.5" tall to the top of it (missing smokestack) and has 4" square metal base.

The boiler of the Engine is made of brass and the firebox is tin. The engine is mounted on its original, four footed tin base. The Steam Engine is such a cool showpiece for any collection. What a great conversation piece and little piece of history. We are not experts on Steam Engine Toys but we were able to discover the following about the company from steamtoy.

Com: The Weeden Manufacturing Company was started by William N. Weeden in the 1880s in New Bedford, Massachusetts. The company first produced oil lamp burners and tin plate household items. Through his dealings he came to meet the owner of the "Youth's Companion" magazine where they struck up a deal to produce toy steam engines to give away as premiums for his magazine. The engine that Weeden produced was the Weeden No. Other products he made were comb cases, match safes and the Weeden Magic Lantern. In the 1890's the Weeden Company expanded their line of steam engines featuring cast iron bases, large brass boiler, nickel plating and more realistic looking steam engines. The Toy Steam Engine offered here is the Weeden #500 which was first produced in 1940. We have not tested the Engine no idea if it works or not.

Does have some loss to the finishes and paint on the outer surfaces, chips age, scratches etc. Please see pics for all details.
